Beef and Red Wine Stew Recipe

This classic beef and red wine stew recipe is the perfect cold winter's day companion. The beef stew with red wine recipe is quick and easy to prepare and will keep you feeling cozy on the coldest of days. It only takes 25 minutes to prepare, provided the beef meat has been thawed beforehand.

Red wine is like sherry. it warms you up from the inside. A good reason to include red wine in a beef stew. Choose a good quality wine when cooking. We used a full-bodied Merlot, but you can use whatever quality red wine you have available in your homes.

The best red wines for cooking are those with moderate tannins: Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese (the main grape in Chianti), and lighter-style Cabernets. Heat won't improve the undesirable qualities of bad wine: it will accentuate them.

The beef with red wine stew is also served best with cooked rice, soft polenta, or couscous. A side dish of grilled vegetables also works well, or even only peas.
