Beef Lasagna Recipe

This quick and easy beef lasagna recipe is a favorite in our home. I wish I can count the times I have made this beef lasagna for my family. So many times, when I have run out of ideas, my husband and children will ask me 'when can we eat lasagna again?'. We are all familiar with a recurring recipe, and this is one of them.

The raindrops are settling on the kitchen windows. Two little sunbirds take cover on the window sill outside the kitchen window. Staring in as if they know what's coming. I always wonder if they know what I am doing and are eager for some scraps. Maybe it is the warmth of the kitchen they long for. The stove has been preheated and the lasagna mixture is cooking in a saucepan, waiting to be assembled.

The atmosphere in the house is warm, comfortable, quiet and as lunchtime nears, the excitement increase, the chatter becomes louder, the jokes increase, the anticipation is evident on the faces of my young children, whom I love dearly. They love this beef lasagna recipe, and cannot wait for their share.

Pinot Noir (or call it Pinot Nero) goes well with lasagna, it is light with a balanced soft taste. It has a pleasant aroma of red berries with notes of cherry and spices dominating. It fits perfectly with meat dishes, duck, paste and dishes of Italian cuisine

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F)
  2. Prepare the lasagna according to the package instructions
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter and toss the beef mince and spinach and season to taste with the nutmeg, salt, and pepper
  4. Bind the mixture with the flour and gradually pour in the red wine, beef stock, and the cream. Bring to the boil, then remove from the heat. Spread half the quick tomato sauce in the bottom of an ovenproof dish and put a layer of lasagna over this. Pour over a third of the beef mixture. Repeat with the remaining beef mixture and lasagna, until the dish is nearly full. Finish off the top with the rest of the tomato sauce and sprinkle with the grated cheddar. Cook for 20 minutes until bubbly and crispy on the top of the lasagna. Cut into desired slices and serve. Garnish with basil leaves.
