Boerewors Recipe

This boerewors recipe is the perfect braai companion. Boerewors is typically served ad the go-to wors (sausage) in addition to braaivleis. Many people also prepare boerewors in a pan and serve it with a braai relish, like chakalaka, and krummelpap. When served together this combination is well known as pap en wors. The pap is perfect for soaking up the wors flavours and braai relish.

Boerewors is an important part of South African, Zimbabwean, Botswana and Namibian cuisine and is very popular across Southern Africa. It is so popular that some supermarkets host an annual championship boerewors competition, where the winner walks away with attractive prizes and a hefty resellers contract. The main ingredient in this boerewors recipe is ground beef, whereas the two most popular ingredients are coriander and cloves.

The base recipe used in boerewors is also popular in making droëwors, another classic South African delicacy. The main difference between droëwors and homemade boerewors is that boerewors are prepared on the braai, whereas droewors is air dried.
