Directions

  1. Soak the chickpeas overnight in water, if they are not of the soft variety.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk in the salt, ginger, pepper, oil, garlic, and lemon juice.
  3. Poke holes in the chicken using a fork. Brush the chicken with a little of the spice mix and pour the lemon mix over the chicken. Cover with plastic wrap and allow the chicken to marinade for at leat 2 hours.
  4. Drain the chickpeas and boil it in salted water for 15 minutes. Drain and rinse well.
  5. Heat a large pot or a tagine over medium heat and add the marinated chicken to the pot with 3 cups of water, salt, turmeric, ginger, parsley, 2 cloves garlic, cinnamon stick, and the butter.
  6. Simmer over low heat for 60 minutes, then remove the chicken pieces and set them aside.
  7. Mix the cornstarch with a little water and add with the chickpeas to the pot or tagine where you removed the chicken. Cook for 5 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
  8. Add the chicken back to the pot and cook until heated. Serve warm and enjoy!
