Ostrich Steaks in Cream Sauce Recipe

This ostrich steaks in cream sauce recipe is one of my favourite recipes. Not only does it taste good, but it is also easy to prepare and surprisingly tasty. The ostrich meat works really well with the cream sauce where the flavours marry in harmony. But you can also use any venison meat. The ostrich steak I have used in this recipe is ostrich fillet, but ostrich rump will also work well.

When people describe the taste of ostrich meat, they tend to use the words rich and earthy. For the same reasons we personally selected ingredients that match the rich and earthy taste. Red wine, mushrooms, cream, and herbs all work well and complement the ostrich meat as few ingredients can. You should notice it in the taste and many people have told me that this is a surprisingly tasty ostrich steak recipe.

We have used a good quality Pinot Noir as the red wine for the cream sauce, but Cabernet sauvignon will also do. Pinot Noir's natural acidity and bright, red berry fruit will complement your ostrich steak recipe.

  1. Melt the butter in a grilling pan over medium to high meat and grill the ostrich steaks to taste, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Remove and keep warm
  2. Add the onions and mushrooms to the pan and sauté until the onions are soft and glossy. Add the red wine, lemon juice, Worcester sauce, salt, pepper, and ostrich steaks and simmer over low heat for 5 minutes
  3. Stir in the single cream, sour cream, and parsley. Heat to just below boiling point. Serve at once with roast baby potatoes, and salad. Enjoy!
