Semolina Bread Recipe

This easy semolina bread recipe is my favourite bread baking recipe. Semolina is a coarse flour made from finely ground durum wheat. It is also called pasta flour because it is perfect for making pasta as well as crispy pizza bases. If you have to weigh up the health benefits between semolina bread and normal white bread, then semolina comes up as the clear winner.

Semolina flour is rich in protein, fibre, and B vitamins and may support weight loss, heart health, and digestion. This ancient grain is packed with more vitamins, minerals, protein, healthy fats and fibre than popular grains such as whole wheat, oats and many others, clearly making it a healthy bread recipe. And now you also know what the secret ingredient is to make the perfect homemade pasta and pizza bases.

Directions

  1. Add the yeast, sugar, flour, olive oil, and salt to a mixing bowl and slowly add the hot water. Mix well until a soft and moist dough forms. Transfer to a work surface that has been lightly dusted with semolina flour and knead for 10 minutes
  2. Transfer the kneaded dough to an oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Allow to rise at room temperature for 1½ hours, about double in size
  3. Transfer the dough to a greased loaf pan, cover the loaf pan with palastic wrap and allow the dough to proof again, until it rises just above the rim of the pan
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°C (180°C)
  5. Place the loaf pan on the middle rack of the oven and bake for 40 - 45 minutes, or until golden brown
  6. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely
  7. Cut into slices and serve. Enjoy!
